Types of Publishing Models:

Today authors have a variety of publishing models to choose from. Which model is best is determined by a number of items including:

  • quantity of books ordered or warehoused,
  • how the books are purchased (bookstores, distributors and wholesalers, web sales only),
  • physical book characteristics (hard or soft bound, unique material),
  • quality of finished product
  • how the production of the book is paid for.

Most agree there are three main types of publishers: Traditional Acquisitions Commercial Publishing, Self Publishing, and Publish on Demand (newest version of vanity publishing)

What is Self Publishing?

The key distinguishing characteristic of self-publishing is the absence of a traditional publisher. Instead the creator or creators fulfill this role, taking editorial control of the content, arranging for printing, marketing the material, and often distributing it, either directly to consumers or to retailers. In some cases, books are printed on demand with no inventory kept.

How long will my project take to complete?
